Ransomware: Changing Every Day

**** CYBER SECURITY ALERT ****

–A message from our CEO and President, Rashaad Bajwa–

There has been a dramatic uptick in ransomware activity in the last week. Unlike most previous ransomware that took advantage of users opening bad email attachments or bad links to kick off the malware, this recent wave has involved open ports on firewalls and weak passwords.

Ransomware

There has been a dramatic uptick in ransomware activity in the last week. Unlike most previous ransomware that took advantage of users opening bad email attachments or bad links to kick off the malware, this recent wave has involved open ports on firewalls and weak passwords.

We have already had a wave of companies come to us in the last couple of days for assistance, and a hospital in Indiana just got hit and had to pay $55K in ransom. Read more about why Hancock Health paid up even with a backup in place.

Hackers’ most common exploits are finding open remote access ports for Remote Desktop, Citrix, etc and then using previously exposed or weak passwords to break in. Once they get in, they drop the ransomware on the network and it spreads like wildfire.

If you are looking for cyber security assistance, we are the largest SECaaS (Security-As-A-Service) vendor in the Northeast with our own patented service delivery. BUT you don’t even need SECaaS to prevent these attacks!

With the following FREE layers of security this attack vector becomes difficult or impossible to be exploited (I repeat, these layers of security are FREE):

  • Password policy with maximum age and complexity requirements (free)
  • Account lockout policy (free)
  • No open remote access ports! Secure remote access with VPN, multifactor or both (free)

If you don’t know if you are protected or have been hacked, please reach out and we’ll help!
